Condé Nast is so synonymous with publishing today that many people forget (or dont know) that he was a real person. From fairly humble roots, he grew to the absolute top of the New York social register thanks to his forward thinking, great curiosity and risk taking. Best of all his actions, for the most part, have kept up for today, I assume because he was just so far ahead of the game. Actually, my favourite fact about Condé is related to this, but isn't in this biography, so I'll tell you here; it's that he introduced and helped to popularise Josephine Baker in the US! She was already famous in France, but he aided her transition into the American market. If you look closely you can see her in one of the pictures though!
